LOL, I hear you. I have spent nearly my entire life 5+ miles from the Atlantic Ocean. As a child I lived at the beach or the pool. As an adult I rarely see either! The beach is a tourist destination in the summer time and chilly in the winter. I just never go down there... The local beaches lost my interest after I went to HI for 3 days in 1991. It's amazing how seeing those beaches and that water ruined the local beach for me...
I'm a Pisces, so the water and I must have been meant for one another! My mom had me in a pool before I was a year old.
Your poem is fantastic!

It's fantastic! The ending is appropriate for someone averse to swimming. I love to swim and used to dream about being a dolphin or mermaid.

Underwater
I want to breath in water,
and feel it in my hair.
I want to go down under,
and not need the air.
I want to explore a world,
different from my own;
I want to twirl,
and loop,
and follow.
The currents
through the
ocean blue.
Maybe I'll become a mermaid,
and grow a scaly tail.
I'll get to live in water,
without a single care.
But then my lungs
start to burn,
and I have to get
back to the air.
(its kind of ironic that I wrote this because, I'm not a big fan of swimming lol)
