Yeah, that would probably be easier. First I'd have to find an agent, which would make it not quite so impossible, but it's hard to get a movie agent too. Maybe if I don't tell my age until after I get signed on, it could work out. It would be really hard though, I agree.

I'm guessing you mean in terms of Hollywood? Only if you have connections in the industry who are capable of taking your work seriously for that age. It's growing harder and harder for anybody to put their foot in the door--it makes fiction publishing like a walk in the park. Indie film groups are more willing to give anybody a shot, though the quality of the script still counts.

I already expected that. It's probably never happened, but that doesn't mean it never will.

Thanks, Kaza! Would it be possible for someone in that age range to write a successful movie script? I know that sounds more farfetched than a book.

Yes! Here is an article about the girl who wrote Sword Birds - it got published when she was 13!! http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6399942.htmlIt's not easy, but nothing worthwhile is, right? I think Chris Paolini was 15 when he wrote Eragon, not sure how old he was when he got published. Kaleb Nation's first book is coming out in the Fall of '09. He's 19 now or 20 but wrote it when he was around 15....

Thanks for the great advice Kaza. Is it possible for someone in the 13-15 age range to get a book published?

Getting published is a huge challenge, but it happens all the time to people who work really hard at what they are doing, and keep believing in themselves.
The first step is to write, write, write, until your fingers almost fall off - because that is the only way to improve. Get in writing groups. Critique friends' writing, and see what you like and don't like, and how to improve. It usually takes years of practice to produce something that is publishable, but you never know - some people hit it out of the ballpark on their first shot!
Then, once you have something that you love, something that you've made so perfect because you've gone over it a hundred times, you might decide it's ready to share with the world. At that point, get some books or go online and research how to write query letters. These are one page letters that you will send to agents telling about you and your book. It takes a really great query letter to get noticed, so spend time on this one!
After, you may hear from an agent who wants to read the rest of your book - so have it ready. If he or she loves it, the agent may take it to show to publishers, and one might buy it, and the rest will be history!
You can send manuscripts to publishers without an agent, but they give these lowest priority, and they sit for a long time in piles called "slush piles" so it's best to go the agent route if you can.
Good luck, and most importantly have fun with it!!
Kaza

I've been wondering to, How long does it take and dose it cost money to get a book published, because i was reading Book Publishers that like your book bye it and then publish it is that true????? Like you summit it and if they like it they'd bye it then publish THis is what i read it's from wikipedia: Submission by author or agent Book and magazine publishers spend a lot of their time buying or commissioning copy. At a small press, it is possible to survive by relying entirely on commissioned material. But as activity increases, the need for works may outstrip the publisher's established circle of writers. Writers often first submit a query letter or proposal. The majority of unsolicited submissions come from previously unpublished authors. When such manuscripts are unsolicited, they must go through the slush pile, in which acquisitions editors sift through to identify manuscripts of sufficient quality or revenue potential to be referred to the editorial staff. Established authors are often represented by a literary agent to market their work to publishers and negotiate contracts. It's confusing how does it work???? Well in about a year or two i want to get the book i'm writing published and go through the process thing which I have know idea how it works. I just started writing it i spent about 3 months writing an outline, now i'm writing it so i don't know whats going to happen next...

This is mainly aimed at Kaza but if anyone else knows they can say too.
I've been wondering what the whole process is for getting a book published. And what part of the process is The Search for Truth currently in?
